A coach won't show and advise you how to do your job - a coach isn't a mentor who will share their greater experience in doing what you are trying to do. A coach won't push you in any particular direction or dictate the shape and content of the sessions.
A coach will listen to you describing your circumstances, issues and goals and will support you in discovering new perspectives and new pathways to success. These could lead to minor adjustments in your thinking and behaviours, or to revelations and self-discoveries that fundamentally change your outlook and relationships with your colleagues.
All the time you, the coachee, are in charge.

During the sessions the coach will sometimes augment their listening and questioning by using tools and exercises that they feel will support the coachee in developing their thinking and self-perceptions. The sessions are usually held at weekly or fortnightly intervals.

By investing in leadership development with LandauerCC, companies can leverage more of the talents lying dormant in their senior execs and leaders and enable them to take more control of their careers and lives. The individuals will become much more motivated to succeed in the company, gaining more of the skills and knowledge needed, and increasing productivity and effectiveness. Well-coached people will also want to adopt more of a coaching approach themselves to their management and leadership roles, and the "coaching effect" will ripple out into the organisation, giving managers and staff more ownership of the decision-making processes. Companies implementing coaching programmes often also see strong increases in staff engagement and satisfaction further down the line.
Nick Landauer FRAeS FIoM set up LandauerCC to channel his desire to help people to grow and to seize the opportunities that fresh perspectives they could develop might provide. Nick takes an open and flexible approach to coaching and decides to apply whatever coaching tools and techniques seem most appropriate at the time. This means that sometimes he will apply elements of e.g. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) coaching, Cognitive Behavioural coaching or Appreciative coaching, as well as those drawn from other documented and researched sources and will suggest exercises he believes will facilitate greater insights for the coachee.
By coming to LandauerCC, you will gain from Nick's finely-honed people skills built up over many years as a global aviation safety auditor, trainer and manager, and more recently through his academic coaching studies. He quickly develops strong, empathetic working relationships with his coachees who are often surprised at the depth and extent of what they can achieve from working through a coaching programme with Nick.

USP? Well, that would be Nick Landauer! He is primarily a “people person” interested in: What makes us tick? What drives our successes and failures? Why do some of us consistently make the wrong choices? Why do people with essentially the same backgrounds and opportunities move onwards and upwards when others don’t? Are our lives really as beyond our control as we sometimes think? In short, no! And with Nick's unique personal approach, coachees and their employers can reap rich rewards.
Working with Nick, the coachee is always in charge and Nick will only encourage them to start to explore a particular pathway, or to be challenged in a particular style having first asked if they are happy to do so. Nick seeks to develop a warm rapport and to engender in the coachee the feeling that they are in a totally secure space into which they can safely bring whatever topics and issues they want. Through attentive listening and insightful questioning, Nick helps his coachees recognise and cut through some of their assumptions and other self-created barriers and to begin to see just how much control of their present and future careers and lives is truly within their own grasp.

Costs will always depend in some way on the length of time the programme will take. This in turn depends on number of coachees and duration of each coachee's individual programme. For a typical LandauerCC single-coachee programme, following client agreement, consisting of an introductory coachee meeting followed by six 90 min coaching sessions and a post-programme review with the client, the cost is around £1800. Any additional sessions, meetings or other activities are charged separately .

Often it will be a company's HR or senior leadership team who will have identified a need for leadership development and coaching for one or more of their staff. In such circumstances, the coaching provider will hold initial meetings and discussions with the client to make sure everyone understands what coaching is and what benefits it can provide. It is also important that the client has considered how best to accommodate any changes in behaviours or approach of coachees in the business as a result of the programme. The coaching provider will then submit a detailed coaching proposal which will include the suggested programme and costs, and form an agreement with the client.

Leaving the UK aviation regulator (CAA) at the age of 59, Nick analysed what his main motivations were. He came to understand that although aviation was a fascinating industry and that helping organisations maintain and improve safety – and thus prevent accidents - continued to be rewarding, it was the people involved more than the planes and technology that excited him. Human Factors play such a large part in the effectiveness of the management of safety. He began to think about how he could pursue and enlarge upon the people side of his work while continuing his aviation consultancy activities via Landauer Aviation Consulting Ltd
He took an opportunity to begin studying for a post-graduate level Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 7 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring and discovered a whole new and exciting world of psychology and coaching practice. One of the many revelations was that during his management career, he had been applying coaching principles and approaches to managing and developing his teams without realising it and had benefitted from two revelatory coaching programmes himself.
The course and the academic work researching coaching psychology, techniques and tools and how best to apply them in practice served to confirm he had alighted upon a field that inspired him and that he really wanted to pursue. The coaching programmes that he was required to run confirmed that by using his knowledge, his intuitions and people skills – some gained during many years as an auditor – he could really help his coachees come to a much better understanding of their situations and issues. He could act as a catalyst to facilitate them broadening their thinking, considering alternative perspectives both on themselves and others, and adapting their approach and behaviours with juniors, peers and more senior colleagues alike.
Nick is a Fellow of the ILM and and member the Association for Coaching and abides by their Code of Ethics.
Nick continues to be available for aviation consulting work with Landauer Aviation Consulting Ltd www.landauerAC.com
Nick’s interests include classical music, choral singing and conducting, local history and wine (especially claret!). He lives with his family in Redhill in Surrey, UK.
